THE SHAGGS - Philosophy of the World Vinyl

 In 1968, in Fremont, New Hampshire, three sisters were pushed into a band their father believed already existed in some fated sense. The Shaggs took shape through Austin Wiggin Jr.'s insistence, with their days reorganised around rehearsals and a promised future. Their sole album, recorded quickly and largely unheard at the time, now sits in pop history as something difficult to categorise. On 'My Pal Foot Foot', rhythms drift out of alignment with guitars and drums moving on separate tracks. 'That Little Sports Car' follows a similar path. Dot Wiggin's lyrics land plainly, sometimes unsettlingly so. It's clumsy, but oddly compelling.
