'Don't Break The Oath', the second studio album by Danish heavy metal legends Mercyful Fate, is widely considered a cornerstone of the early black metal movement, fusing traditional heavy metal with a dark, occult atmosphere that sets it apart from its contemporaries.
'Don't Break the Oath' dives deep into the arcane, with themes of Satanism, sorcery, and ritual woven throughout, lending an atmospheric and otherworldly quality that, coupled with King Diamond's mesmerizing vocal style and the album’s intricate, multi-layered compositions, made it a standout release of the 1980s metal scene. Decades later, it remains a cult classic, often hailed as a quintessential metal album.
