James Blunt himself describes the album as his strongest work in 20 years. Musically, he returns to the warm, acoustic pop sound from the late 90s and 00s, with inspiration from some of the musicians who originally inspired him, including David Gray, Coldplay, and The Verve.
The result is an album with a vibrant, organic sound, grand choruses, and nostalgic storytelling. "Airplane Mode" simultaneously hits the emotional nerve that fans fell for on the debut "Back to Bedlam".
